Optics Comparison
The four recon optics are the Binoculars, Monocular, Range Finder and Infrared Range Finder. All four spot enemy infantry and vehicles, and each halves maximum movement speed while in use. They differ in price, zoom and whether they show an accurate distance.
| Item | Price | Zoom | Range readout | Needs batteries | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Binoculars | 180 cash | Low | None in the shop text | Not known | Recon. Shop unlock level 0. Not in the Recon unlock tree. |
| Monocular | 350 cash | Medium, variable | None in the shop text | Not known | Recon. Shop unlock level 0. Recon unlock tree: level 2 for 7,500 cash. |
| Range Finder | 1,450 cash | High, variable | Accurate | Not known | Recon. Shop unlock level 0. Recon unlock tree: level 8 for 25,000 cash. |
| Infrared Range Finder | 3,200 cash | Infrared, variable | Accurate | Yes. The scope uses 3 charges when raised, then 1 charge every 0.8 s: about 78 s on a Battery, 198 s on a High Capacity Battery | Recon. Shop unlock level 0. Recon unlock tree: level 32 for 50,000 cash. Ghillie Body Suit and Ghillie Headwear hide the player from it, per the shop text. Has a reload action. |
The Recon unlock tree lists its own role level and cash cost for the Monocular, Range Finder and Infrared Range Finder. Those costs are separate from the shop prices in the table.
Which one to buy
- Lowest cost: the Binoculars, at 180 cash. They have low magnification and show no distance.
- Medium zoom: the Monocular, at 350 cash. Its zoom can be varied, but its shop text gives no distance readout.
- Accurate distance: the Range Finder, at 1,450 cash. It is the cheapest of the two optics that show a distance.
- Infrared view: the Infrared Range Finder, at 3,200 cash. It is the most expensive optic and the only one with infrared magnification.
No spotting range is given for any of the four, so this page cannot say which one reveals targets farther away.
Spotting
A spot on infantry takes 0.5 s to register and fades over 30 s, and it is kept for up to 180 s. The general spotting rules are on the Spotting page. As far as is known, no spot time depends on the optic used.
Season 2 price changes

- Monocular: 150 to 350 cash.
- Range Finder: 400 to 1,450 cash.
